The Lagos state Taskforce has reported that it raided multiple hideouts in some parts of Lagos which culprits use in carrying out criminal activities. Blackspots at Oshodi, Mafoluku, and Airport road which have been serving as a hideaway for unlawful activities were invaded by the agency.
This information is based on a press statement by the Lagos state government available on its website.
To purge the state of perpetrators of unlawful activities, the Taskforce carries out these raids occasionally and it believes these efforts will go a long way in making Lagos void of these elements.
What the agency is saying
CSP Shola Jejeloye, the Chairman of the Agency, disclosed that the raid which was carried out based on reliable information led to the apprehension of 33 suspects who are presently undergoing interrogation before prosecution.
He said, “we have rounded up 33 suspects who will be profiled and if found to be of questionable character or guilty of a crime, would be charged to court accordingly. We carry out raids like these regularly to rid the streets of criminal elements who use the hideouts as a safe haven after their criminal activities.”
CSP Shola further stated that through preliminary investigations, the agency discovered that some of the arrested suspects use these hideouts as take-off points to rob innocent residents or indulge in other criminal activities, saying: “We are going to put an end to these acts by ensuring that these policing tactics are utilized “every now and then” to achieve adequate safety and security in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of the State Government”
The Taskforce has also shown its continued intention of embarking on raids across the State towards ensuring a total clampdown on bike operators violating the ban on plying major highways in the six Local Governments Areas and nine Local Council Development Areas till total compliance is attained.
CSP Shola stated that since the commencement of the week-long raid in some parts of Lagos, 322 bikes have been seized. Similarly, in the Amuwo-Odofin area of the State 114 bikes were seized for operating on restricted routes. The agency is assuring people that more will be done until the State’s vision of maintaining safety and sanity in Lagos is actualized.
