The Nigeria Customs Service Apapa Area Command generated N28.10 billion in a single day on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, marking the highest daily revenue collection in the command’s history.

The achievement was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Isah Sulaiman, Chief Superintendent of Customs. The new figure surpasses the previous daily record of N20.1 billion set sometime in September 2025, shortly after the current Customs Area Controller, Emmanuel Oshoba, assumed office.

Context of Sustained Gains

The latest milestone comes only weeks after the command recorded an unprecedented N323 billion in monthly revenue for July 2026. Officials attributed the continued improvement to the combined effects of reforms, stronger compliance, better trade facilitation, intelligence-led interventions and the growing efficiency of digital customs processes.

Oshoba stressed that the result was not merely a statistical achievement. He said revenue collected by the Nigeria Customs Service forms part of the resources the government uses to fund public priorities such as infrastructure, security, education, healthcare and other services that affect the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

Dedication and Acknowledgements

The Area Controller praised Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi and his management team for their ongoing support of modernisation, automation and reforms designed to make customs operations more efficient, transparent and business-friendly. He dedicated the record to the government and people of Nigeria.

Oshoba also recognised the cooperation of compliant importers, exporters, licensed customs agents and other stakeholders, as well as citizens who provided actionable intelligence. He noted that every legitimate transaction contributes to national development and urged stakeholders to continue supporting lawful trade, saying a stronger revenue base expands the government’s capacity to meet public needs and create an environment in which businesses can prosper.

Charge to Officers

Oshoba cautioned officers and men of the command against complacency, describing the record as a responsibility to achieve more. He emphasised that revenue collection must go hand in hand with trade facilitation, professionalism, transparency and respect for stakeholders. Personnel were directed to resolve legitimate disputes promptly and ensure that customs procedures do not unnecessarily obstruct lawful business.

The command, he said, remains committed to maintaining the current momentum through stronger revenue generation, trade facilitation, professionalism and collaboration with stakeholders, with the understanding that every naira collected legitimately strengthens the government’s ability to deliver development priorities and improve the lives of Nigerians.
