The staff of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) embarked on an indefinite strike action, which led to the shutdown of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) confirmed the strike action in an official statement, co-signed by the Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN).

Nigeria Aviation Handling Company PLC (NAHCO) has called for an indefinite strike over salary increments. The Aviation Union disclosed in its statement that all the ultimatums issued by the union had gone unheeded, and the management continues to play with their intelligence through the scheduling of purposeless meetings. The union also stated that despite substantial evidence in favor of their requests, management has chosen not to pay attention to their cry for justice and equity.

Dozens of intending passengers were left stranded, as there was no checking-in and no flight arrivals. “I’m worried because I’m traveling to school for my first semester exams, which start on Wednesday, January 25, 2023,” an international student told RateCaptain.
