Emefiele said the decision requires “God’s Divine intervention” and stated that he was more willing to give a proper answer in the next few days.

Backstory

Various interest groups had pushed CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele to throw his hat in the ring and run for president in the 2023 general election in their public campaigns.

Hundreds of young people from throughout the country descended on the APC conference in Abuja in March, demanding that Emefiele proclaim his intention to run for president in 2023 while still serving as the Central Bank Governor.

Yesterday, some groups took it a step further and purchased the 100M presidential nomination form of the APC for the CBN governor, asking him to join the 2023 presidential race.

This action has prompted a response from the CBN boss. However, the response still leaves many with more questions.

What CBN governor is saying

His message reads, “I am humbled by the growing interest of those asking that I run for the Office of President in the 2023 general elections: I have not come to that decision. I note and salute the sacrifices of those farmers and patriots going as far as raising personal funds  and offering me Presidential Nomination Forms: I thank them most profusely.”

He gave us a glance at the action he would take if he accepted the request to run for President. He said, “However, Should I answer their calls and decide to seek presidential nomination, I will use my own hard-earned savings from over 35 years of banking leadership to buy my own  Nomination Forms, without proxies in an open and transparent manner in full compliance with the laws and Constitution of The Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He stated that his final decision on the matter would be given in the next few days he said, “And should I not run for elected office, I will continue to serve and sacrifice for the good people of Nigeria under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari. This is a serious decision that requires God’s Divine intervention: in the next few days The Almighty will so direct.”
