A standard 50kg bag of cement is currently trading at different price points in Abuja, with HBM Elephant listed as the lowest-priced among the major brands and Dangote 3X the highest, according to an online price listing updated on 15 October 2026.

Dangote 3X is quoted at ₦13,100 per bag, BUA at ₦12,800, and HBM Elephant at ₦12,600. That puts HBM ₦500 cheaper than Dangote 3X and BUA ₦300 cheaper than Dangote on a per-bag basis. Dealers’ actual selling prices can vary, so the figures should be treated as indicative rather than fixed.

Bulk Buying Widens the Gap

For contractors and individuals buying in volume, the difference becomes more significant. At the listed rates:

– 100 bags of Dangote 3X would cost ₦1.31 million
– 100 bags of BUA would cost ₦1.28 million
– 100 bags of HBM Elephant would cost ₦1.26 million

A buyer opting for 100 bags of HBM Elephant would spend ₦50,000 less than one purchasing the same quantity of Dangote 3X. These totals do not include transport, unloading or other charges, which can raise the final outlay. Buyers are advised to compare products of similar grades and specifications before settling on a brand.

Prices Vary Widely Across Cities

Cement prices are not uniform nationwide. A September market report showed that Dangote and BUA quotations differed across Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Ibadan, with some dealers asking as much as ₦15,000 per 50kg bag.

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) noted in August that market prices had risen from roughly ₦9,300–₦9,700 per bag in January 2026 to between ₦10,500 and ₦13,000 by mid-year. In some locations, prices reached ₦13,000–₦15,000 in July. The commission said it was examining whether the increases reflected legitimate production and distribution costs or whether anti-competitive practices played a role.

What It Means for Builders

Cement remains one of the largest cost items for Nigerians constructing or renovating homes and for businesses buying building materials. For large projects, small differences in the bag price can add up quickly.

Practical steps that can reduce the bill include obtaining quotations from several dealers, confirming the product grade, and clarifying delivery and unloading charges before placing a bulk order. In a market where prices continue to fluctuate by brand, city and seller, careful comparison remains one of the most effective ways to control costs.
