First Bank announced the retirement of its deputy managing director.

The Board of First Bank Plc has announced the retirement of its deputy managing director, Mr. Gbenga Shobo, and also the appointment of an executive director, Retail Banking Director South, Mr. Oluseyi Popoola Oyefeso.

This information was disclosed in a corporate disclosure report seen by RateCaptain.

In the report, it was stated that the retirement comes ahead of the deputy managing director, Mr. Gbenge, attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 on June 2, 2023, and in compliance with the recent directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria on the tenure of directors, via circular dated February 23, 2023, to deposit money banks.

The First Bank report also included the appointment of Mr. Oluseyi Popoola as Executive Director, which took effect on March 2, 2023, subject to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s approval.

Mr. Oluseyi joined First Bank in 2006 as a Branch Manager in one of the bank’s three top branches and has held a variety of positions including business development manager, group and retail banking manager, and institutional banking. Mr. Oluseyi was the group executive for commercial and retail banking in Lagos and the West Division. He was the country managing director of FBN Bank Ghana Limited and has over twenty-five years of management experience in the banking and financial services industry.
