Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has announced that scientific testing conducted by the agency has proven that Indomie Instant Noodles are safe for consumption. Adeyeye made this declaration during a media briefing on Thursday, reassuring consumers that the recalled ‘Special Chicken Flavour’ variant in Taiwan and Malaysia is not present in the Nigerian market.

A total of 114 samples of instant noodles and additives were tested by NAFDAC for ethylene oxide and heavy metal ions. The samples were obtained from various factories, markets in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano. Two different methodologies, Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Detector, were employed to analyze the collected samples and detect the chemical components.

Adeyeye explained that the delay in releasing the test results was due to the importation of necessary reagents and technology to ensure a scientific and thorough process. To demonstrate her confidence in the test results, she consumed a well-prepared Instant Noodles meal during the conference, with her colleagues requesting to share it with her.

Indomie, the leading noodles brand in Nigeria, has been a preferred choice among families for generations. The manufacturer of the brand, Dufil Prima Foods Limited, confirmed the positive outcome of the NAFDAC laboratory tests.

Temitope Ashiwaju, the Group Corporate Communications and Event Manager of Dufil Prima Foods Plc, affirmed the company’s commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards both nationally and internationally, as well as supporting the local economy. Ashiwaju highlighted the company’s unwavering dedication to delivering unparalleled quality to consumers.

“Our consumers have trusted the quality of our products over the years, which is why they stood by the brand even during the testing period. Indomie noodle’s taste remains unmatched, and its quality is backed by consistent innovation and regular in-house quality assurance tests. We continue to be the number one instant noodles brand in Nigeria,” Ashiwaju stated at the Dufil Prima Foods Lagos office.

Indomie instant noodles are proudly produced in Nigeria, with operations spanning at least three decades. Dufil Prima has enhanced local capacity utilization to meet market demands and surpass local and international standards, leading to increased production and the creation of direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The affirmation by NAFDAC and Dufil Prima Foods provides assurance to consumers that they can confidently enjoy Indomie Instant Noodles without any safety concerns.
