The naira opened the week lower against the US dollar on the official foreign-exchange market, according to Central Bank of Nigeria data.
The currency traded at N1,332.10 per dollar on Monday, down from N1,331.19 on Friday. The move represented a depreciation of N0.91 at the official window.
Parallel Market Unchanged
In the parallel market the naira remained stable at N1,373 per dollar, matching the rate recorded at the close of the previous week. The steadiness on the street contrasted with the modest decline at the official rate published daily by the Central Bank.
Reserves Stand at $55.08 Billion
Nigeria’s foreign-exchange reserves were reported at $55.08 billion as of 9 October 2026. The figure is closely monitored as an indicator of the Central Bank’s capacity to support the exchange rate and meet external obligations.
Friday’s Gain Reversed
The naira had strengthened against the dollar on Friday, ending the previous week on a firmer note. Monday’s trading reversed that gain at the official market.
The official rate eased by less than one naira while the parallel market held firm, leaving a gap of approximately N40.90 between the two rates based on Monday’s figures. Near-term movements will depend on the scale of inflows into the official market and the Central Bank’s management of reserves.
