President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to stabilizing the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and fostering peace across Africa.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2024 African Military Games in Abuja, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who represented Tinubu, emphasized the administration’s dedication to addressing security challenges and promoting regional cooperation.

“As ECOWAS Chairman, I am determined to stabilize our sub-region and the entire African continent to ensure its prosperity. Strengthening ties among African nations to foster camaraderie among troops remains a top priority,” Tinubu stated in a message read by Shettima.

Strengthening Military Cooperation

The President highlighted the significance of military sports in cultivating unity and enhancing collaboration across Africa. The second edition of the African Military Games, held two decades after the inaugural event, served as a platform for building camaraderie and teamwork among armed forces across the continent.

“Military sports awaken the spirit of comradeship and friendship, which are essential for fostering cooperation among African militaries,” Tinubu said.

He also stressed the importance of physical fitness for armed forces, underscoring its role in maintaining the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of military personnel. “Fit and healthy armed forces personnel are better equipped to navigate the complexities of today’s volatile, uncertain, and dynamic environments,” he noted.

Promoting Sportsmanship and Professionalism

President Tinubu congratulated participants from various African nations for their professionalism and sportsmanship throughout the games. “Your conduct during the games exemplifies not only military discipline but also your excellence as sportsmen and women. This is an achievement we should all celebrate as Africans,” he said.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, also commended the participants for their efforts and commitment, emphasizing the importance of events like the African Military Games in promoting collaboration and understanding among African nations.

A Vision for a United and Secure Africa

Tinubu’s administration has consistently emphasized regional stability and security. As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu aims to strengthen regional partnerships and address security challenges affecting Africa.

With the conclusion of the African Military Games 2024, the event is hailed as a milestone in fostering unity and cooperation among African nations, reflecting Tinubu’s broader vision for a secure and prosperous continent.
