In a significant step toward bolstering Africa’s industrial landscape, Dangote Cement has kicked off production at its latest facility in Attingué, a suburb approximately 30 kilometers outside the bustling capital of Abidjan.
The formal reveal came on Wednesday during an event at the Novotel Abidjan-Marcory, where Serge Gbotta, the Managing Director of Dangote Cement’s Ivory Coast branch, shared the exciting developments. Spanning 50 hectares of land, this cutting-edge plant boasts an annual output of 3 million metric tons of cement, positioning it as one of the company’s premier operations beyond its Nigerian roots.
Backed by an investment of around 100 billion CFA francs, the initiative reflects the forward-thinking ethos of founder Aliko Dangote. It aims to foster greater continental independence by curbing reliance on foreign imports and channeling local resources into high-quality manufacturing.
This addition elevates Ivory Coast to the 11th nation on the African continent to house a Dangote Cement manufacturing site. With the group’s overall production reaching 55 million tons annually across the region, the new venture is poised to play a pivotal role in upgrading local infrastructure. It directly addresses surging needs for building supplies, fueled by swift city growth and ambitious development initiatives nationwide.
Projections indicate the Attingué site will create over 1,000 jobs, both immediate and in supporting roles, injecting vitality into the local economy. This influx promises opportunities for Ivory Coast’s younger workforce while empowering a network of small and medium enterprises, from logistics providers and construction crews to vendors and service partners.
During the unveiling ceremony, Gbotta, serving as the local CEO, emphasized the broader impact: “We are dedicated to delivering top-tier cement to Ivorian consumers—crafted right here at home and priced affordably. Beyond being a manufacturing hub, this plant stands as a beacon of optimism for Ivory Coast’s prospects and a pledge to partner with communities on eco-friendly progress.”
As Dangote Cement continues its pan-African push, this launch underscores a commitment to sustainable growth, potentially reshaping regional supply chains and spurring economic resilience for years to come.
